Kula Organic FarmPopular
KULA IS A FRESH FOOD MOVEMENT, AIMED AT PROVIDING THE NEIGHBOURHOOD WITH SAFE, ORGANICALLY GROWN, AND FRESH LOCAL PRODUCE AND INFORMATION.
Kula means ‘To Grow’ in Xitsonga (one of our indigenous South African languages). Kula is also a Sanskrit word that can be translated as “community,” “clan” or “tribe.” According to Yogapedia, Kula may also be translated to mean “community of the heart.” This implies that the community of people has shared values and a shared sense of valuing and connecting with each other.
WE’RE ABOUT GROWTH…
Kula Organic Farm has done just that for our family – it has helped to grow our love for farming (again); as well as growing a deeper connection to each other, our environment and the greater community. The farm is situated in Midrand and produces organically grown vegetables and grass-fed cattle for commercial and domestic consumption.
In 2017, we partnered with Permaculture expert, Amon Maluleke, who helped transfer his vast knowledge of farm production into making Kula more productive. He ensured that the founding principles of permaculture, which emphasise an enhanced look at food security and environmental conservation – essentially food production done in a sustainable way.
WE’RE ABOUT CONNECTING…
With this in mind, writer, agripreneur and content marketer, Nonkululeko Britton-Masekela is dedicated to educating and sharing information with the greater community around organically grown vegetables and herbs and how they can help us heal ourselves and how we can grow our own. She is passionate about connecting to like-minded people (to make the green circle bigger) and connecting people to the producers of their food (aka farmers).
Kula works with other sustainable food producers, Thembalami Food Garden (led by Amon Maluleke); Dischem Food Garden (led by Lebogang Malinga); Siyakhana Food Garden (led by Thabang Makoloi); as well as The Alex Greening Route (led by Solly Tladi) – all of them working tirelessly to ensure the production of the best (and cleanest) quality vegetables and herbs for the conscious individual.
